There’s so many that I couldn’t post them all at once, so periodically I will share cool new finds here. My #hope is that you too might find a new favorite!

NPR’S HOW I BUILT THIS PODCAST

As a lover of all things podcast, I learned about HIBT from one of my besties who also enjoys a great podcast. One listen and I was hooked! In one week’s time, I listened to seven interviews with Guy Raz. So far I’ve learned about the creation of Instagram, Airbnb, Radio One, Honest Tea, Atari & Chuck E. Cheese’s (both created by the same person) and more!

Guy Raz is an amazing storyteller/developer. I love how he gets the interviewees to open up about their idea development, funding, life philosophies and how they handled the curveballs when things didn’t go as planned. The well-timed music brings you into the story with them.

A good failure is good for your soul. There’s nothing worse than feeling like you are invincible and really cool and entitled…The cure? Getting out of your comfort zone. – Nolan Bushnell, Founder of Atari and Chuck E. Cheese’s

If you are an entrepreneur who is in the process of building something, this podcast is for you. It shares the ups and downs of how entrepreneurs and business leaders who seem “larger than life” got their start in building their empires. If they can do it, so can we!

Whether you’re a podcast beginner or connoisseur, I recommend you give How I Built This a try. #trypod  You can subscribe to How I Built this using the Podcast app on your smartphone, or here.

TOOLS OF TITANS by Tim Ferris

Tim Ferris of The Tim Ferris Show, compiled this book of golden nuggets from the interviews he conducted on his show. Tools of Titans is divided into three sections: healthy, wealthy, and wise, with additional non-interview sections written by Tim.

I read that making your bed everyday begins a chain reaction of success for your day, and that you return to that at the end of the day. Since then, I have made my bed daily for the past three months, and it truly does make a difference in the starting and ending of my day. Hooray for that small but powerful changes!

I am still processing Paulo Coelho’s advice to “throw away the notebook and let the essential things remain.” Say what?! I am the Queen of Notetaking! However, I take notes now, I ask myself what’s most important to remember – and maybe that’s the essence behind Mr. Coelho’s advice.

If you aren’t a super fitness buff, the healthy section might throw you for a loop, as a lot of the advice seems to be advance level. Don’t let that stop you from reading this gem! It doesn’t have to be read the same way as a traditional book. I like to select interviews at random, then check off the completed chapters on the table of contents. Feel free to skip around at your pleasure – consider it a buffet of wisdom.

On a final note, this collection of interviews is massive, and therefore is not commuter friendly. I recommend this being an at-home read, which works for me. To learn more about Tools of Titans and where to buy it, please visit https://toolsoftitans.com/.

THE DAILY GRACE CO. BIBLE STUDY: HIS LOVE NEVER FAILS (HOSEA)

img_9149

God put it on my heart to study the book of Hosea, and I’m enjoying The Daily Grace Company’s study. Each week’s section begins with a full page scripture for memorization. Each day of the study shares a correlating scripture about God’s goodness and redeeming love.

There is a written devotional that correlates with each chapter of Hosea, and sometimes the chapter is broken down over multiple days for deeper study. A section for journaling thoughts and prayers is included. The verses of Hosea are written out, so make sure you have your Bible!

It is mind-blowing to read about God’s steadfast, unfailing love for His people, even when we reject Him and put others in His place. It is a beautiful story of God’s pursuit of us. The pages bring to the surface God’s emotions about his faithless people, but it also reveals love, #hope and redemption as God calls our hearts back to Him, the True Lover of our souls.

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak tenderly to her. And there I will give her her vineyards and make the Valley of Achor a door of hope. And there she shall answer as in the days of her youth, as at the time when she came out of the land of Egypt. – Hosea 2:14-15, ESV

If you are in a season where you need refreshing or just a reminder of God’s goodness, mercy, and unfailing love, I recommend reading Hosea and this study. Find His Love Never Fails and other great Bible resources here.

Thanks for stopping by and stay tuned for the next My Favorite Things post! If you check out any of these resources, please share your thoughts in the comments. I’d love to hear from you!

About stacynjeffries

Life is a collection of our stories, a collection of moments. I love to tell stories! I think that through storytelling, we get to share glimpses of our lives with each other, to see the world in the other person’s eyes. Through the laughter and the tears our stories offer encouragement and hope to others. This space was created so that I could share my stories of healing, redemption, living fully alive, and finding my voice again. I hope my words encourage you wherever you are on the path. I hope you laugh. I hope you cry. I hope you feel and come alive again. I hope you find your own path to redemption and healing. I hope you find your own voice for telling your stories and sharing your heart with the world. God is with you. God is for you. God sees you and He hears your prayers, and He bends down to listen.
